(Brisbane Military Radio Collection)

• The Brisbane Military Radio Collection is a non-profitmaking collection of radio and signalling equipment formerly used by Army, Navy and Air Forces in Australia and overseas. It includes radio communication, radio navigation, signalling mirrors and lamps, line including telephone, telegraph and teleprinter, test equipment, and anything else that was, or is being, used for military signalling .

Why?

• The idea of the collection came about when it was realized that very little of this type of equipment was available for viewing by the general public. This is a pity because military signalling equipment has played such a big role in our military heritage. Since it's very beginnings, this collection has been made available for public displays and exhibitions whenever and wherever possible. The sole aim of this collection is the preservation, restoration and public display of its contents.

• The collection started with the donation, in 1989, of a Wireless Set No. 19 Mk.II for the purpose of installing in a WWII Military Signals Truck which I had obtained and was going to restore ( see my Military Vehicle Page for photographs of this). When it was realized how little was displayed in Museums, the collecting began. Some of the equipment has been donated and to all those people who have donated, we sincerely thank you on behalf of the viewing public. Quite a deal of expenditure has been outlaid in the purchase and restoration of equipment.

• The Brisbane Military Radio Collection has been assembled by Dave Prince and his wife, Beverley. They are always very happy to hear from anyone who has information about equipment, where it was used, etc. They are in contact with other collections around Australia and information is made available to those collections and to ANY interested persons.

• We are always looking for equipment to add to the collection or (if we already have an example in the Collection) to swap with other genuine collectors for something that we haven't got. We are always willing to accept donations or negotiate for the purchase/swap of equipment.

• Similarly, we are also looking for Manuals/Handbooks to add to the collection's library.

• This collection is dedicated to the memory of the men and women, of all branches of the Armed Services, who were operators or repairers of the equipment and many of whom gave the ultimate sacrifice.
